Mystery Sock KAL
Part 4

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

Make One Stitch Left (M1L)

Slip the left-hand needle under the horizontal bar located between two stitches, from front to back. Notice how this “new” stitch is twisted.

With the right-hand needle, knit through the back loop of this stitch. You’ve increased one stitch.

Make One Stitch Right (M1R)

Slip the left-hand needle under the horizontal bar located between two stitches, from back to front.

Then knit through the front as usual.

skp: slip 1 stitch as if to knit/knit the next stitch/then pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch and off the needle.

Wrap and Turn (w&t)

On a KNIT Row: Slip next stitch as if to purl with yarn in back; bring yarn forward between the needles (except when working the first w&t; here bring the yarn forward around the slipped stitch). Move the slipped stitch back to the left hand needle and move yarn to the back away from you, between the needles. TURN work (WS faces you now) and work the next (WS) row.

On a PURL Row: Slip next stitch as if to purl with yarn in front; bring yarn to the back of work between the needles (except when working the first w&t; here bring the yarn to back around the slipped stitch). Move the slipped stitch back to the left hand needle and move yarn to the front toward you, between the needles. TURN work (RS faces you now) and work the next (RS) row.

Leg will measure approx 6 3/4 (7, 7 1/4)” from rolled cast on edge.

Part 3

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

skp: slip 1 stitch as if to knit/knit the next stitch/then pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch and off the needle.

Cuffs measure approx 1 3/4 (2, 2 1/4)” from rolled edge.

LEG

This pattern requires you to slip sts from needle to needle. Attach a lockable stitch marker to each cuff, so it’s handy when those sts do have to be moved!

While the total amount of 70 sts per sock rem the same (unless otherwise noted), the stitch count per individual needle will change and is noted after each affected rnd.

TIP: In rnds 1-9 (part 1 of patt) and in rnds 10-17 (part 2 of patt), the 3 purl sts are always just purled in each rnd.

Mystery Sock KAL

Part 2

Addition to your MATERIAL LIST: 2 lockable markers or a small amount of waste yarn.

SPECIAL TERMS

C3F: Slip 1 stitch purlwise to cable needle, and hold in front of your work. Knit 2 stitches from LH needle, then knit 1 stitch from cable needle.

PB (Place Bead): Work to stitch to be beaded. Slide bead onto crochet hook, then slip hook purlwise into stitch, and slide stitch off LH knitting needle. With left thumb and index finger pinch the stitch tight immediately under the crochet hook, and slip bead over stitch and off hook. This may take a little practice but you’ll get the hang of it soon!

Now slip the beaded stitch back to LH needle without twisting it and continue to follow pattern instructions.

Check out this link for awesome picture support – you’ll have to scroll down about half of the page to get to them…you’ll see….

 http://www.stitchdiva.com/custom.aspx?id=178

K1f&b: Insert right needle into stitch, wrap yarn around needle and pull back out toward you as if to knit. Do not pull old stitch off left needle. Instead insert right needle into the backloop of same stitch, wrap yarn around needle and pull up and back out. You’ve increased one stitch.

Begin Cable and Beads Pattern

You have two options for your Cable and Bead Pattern,

Option 1 has only one round of beads for those of you who are trying beads for the first time or who just don’t like a lot of beads on their socks.

Option 2 has 3 rounds of beads, which is still not a lot and really does look pretty cool!

YOU DECIDE!

Option 1

Rnd 1: *P2, C3F, rep from * across all sts on both needles.

Rnds 2 -4: (P2, K3) across all sts on both needles.

Rnd 5: *P2, C3F, rep from * across all sts on both needles.

Mystery Sock KAL

by antje gillingham

Hello Everyone, and how wonderful that you could join us in this Mystery Sock Knit-Along!

I for one, have soooo much gorgeous sock yarn stashed at my house in many many different places that I pretty much have to have at least one pair of socks going at all times! And what could be better than being able to share my crazy obsessed passion for knitting socks with others who feel exactly the same way!?!.....I’m thinking…..wait……hmmm….Nope! Pretty much nothing comes close!

A few things before we get started:

The pattern is written in a condensed version and designed for knitters who either already know how the 2 socks/2circular needles method works or for those who own one of my books, Knitting Circles around Socks and Knitting More Circles around Socks, which they can use as a reference to guide them through the basics.

For example:

The pattern reads: CO and set up 56 (60, 66) sts for both socks.

I am assuming you either know what that means or you’ll look it up in one of the book(s) and follow the instructions and photo guide for the basic cast on and set up of your socks and needles.

The needle sizes have to help us with the pattern! This particular pattern has a 14-stitch repeat. That’s great for size large but not so much for medium…

No. I am not lazy, and yes, I know that some of us don’t like the fact that tension is being manipulated with the help of needle sizes rather than changing the stitch count. However, we are changing the needle size by 0.25 mm – hardly enough to compromise the overall look of your knitted sock, but just enough to tighten the stitches themselves and slightly changing the gauge to a smaller one for the medium sock.

Please, do not hesitate to post any questions either to the Mystery Sock Kal thread on Ravelry or the “Ewe Talk” feature on my website (the tab is located on the left side on the home page)! I will check both locations every evening.

Now, let’s get busy knitting!!!!!
